The San Francisco 49ers are well in the midst of OTAs and the offseason, trying to recover from a disappointing 2024 campaign that saw the organization fall short of the playoffs. After Brock Purdy's mammoth contract, they're "all-in" with this core and now have to deliver.

That said, Purdy needs some pass-catching weapons. He lost Deebo Samuel and following the surprise retirement of Chris Conley, there's a hole on the roster that should be filled. The franchise had been in discussions with former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars wideout Gabe Davis, but he seemingly has a wandering eye.

According to a new report, Davis is still entertaining other teams despite the 49ers' clear interest.

49ers Seemingly Battling Other Teams to Sign Impressive Vet WR

As reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, San Francisco has some competition for Davis. He's working out with the New Orleans Saints, who join the Niners, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers as franchises who've taken a closer look at the playmaker this offseason.

The 26-year-old wideout had only 239 receiving yards in 10 games last year, though posted a 746-yard campaign and 836-yard season in the years prior. He's proven to be a red-zone weapon, notably catching four TDs in the infamous "13 Seconds" playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs during his time with the Buffalo Bills.

Davis represents the ultimate high-upside, low-cost type of player. His best days would make you think he's among Justin Jefferson or Ja'Marr Chase. His worst ones would confuse you for Kadarius Toney. Regardless, it's smart for organizations to target him, and Davis deserves an opportunity to land on his feet.

Aside from last season, Davis has been reliably healthy throughout his five-year career. If San Francisco lands that type of player, it's a big win. They're competing with other teams though, and if Davis was serious about joining the 49ers, he likely would have by now.

Here's hoping head coach Kyle Shanahan can be a convincing force.
