The San Francisco 49ers are seeking to make some changes this offseason. This past season, they went 6-11, one year after making it to the Super Bowl.

This roster is talented but needs some fine-tuning to improve the team. GM John Lynch will look at different avenues to improve the roster and one opportunity may have become available.

On Monday, Cleveland Browns edge Myles Garrett officially requested a trade, per Ian Rapoport. After spending eight seasons with the Browns, he is looking for a change of scenery.

He's only made the playoffs twice in his career, with one just postseason win. That isn't good enough for a player of Garrett's caliber. Across eight seasons, he's a six-time Pro Bowler, four-time First-Team All-Pro, and was the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year.

With one of the best defensive players in the league asking out, the 49ers could certainly call the Browns to see what it would take to land him.

Per Zac Jackson of the Athletic, Browns GM Andrew Berry said he wouldn't accept a trade offer of two first-round picks but things can always change after a conversion.

Although it may not seem likely right now, there could be a pathway for Garrett to land on the 49ers roster. Akash Anavarathan highlighted that Garrett's 2025 cap hit would be $6.3 million, which is relatively low for a player of his caliber.

Teams are expected to have to give up two first-round picks to acquire the Texas A&M product. That is a high price tag but it would be worth it. Garrett has compiled 352 total tackles, 116 TFLs, and 102.5 sacks. He's racked up double-digit sacks in seven straight seasons.

For the 49ers, who have a higher first-round pick (No. 11 overall) than most other teams who would be in the conversation to add Garrett, that means a projected deal could look something like this:

Niners-Garrett

The 49ers offering a premium first-rounder in that No. 11 pick could have a little wiggle room to ask for something extra back from the Browns, which in this projection comes in the form of a mid-round pick swap, jumping up from the fourth round to add another third-round pick.

Pairing him with Nick Bosa on the edge would give the 49ers the best pass-rushing duo in the league. With the talent on this roster, giving up two first-round picks wouldn't be a bad idea.

This team is chasing a Super Bowl and getting Garrett on the team would give them a better shot of securing that.

Garrett's trade request shook up the NFL world on Monday and the possibility of him landing in San Francisco isn't as far-fetched as many assume.
