This is the last couple of weeks for off time before training camp starts next month. Rookies report to camp on July 15, and veterans come in on July 22 for the San Francisco 49ers.
They inked Brock Purdy to an extension this offseason and traded for Mac Jones to be their backup. The 49ers are looking to have a bounce-back campaign but while that is their focus, there are several free agents hoping to find a job for the 2025 season.
Former 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard is still available, and there's a good chance he doesn't get a job anytime soon.
C.J. Beathard is Still Sitting on the Free Agent Market
Beathard played with San Francisco from 2017-2020 before spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins practice squad.
Over his six-year career, the Iowa product has completed 60.4% of his throws for 3,886 passing yards for 19 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. He has 13 starts under his belt and went 3-10 in those outings. His last start came in 2023 with the Jags in 2023 but he didn't stick with any roster.
He's been on the open market for the last couple of months, and there have been no takers. Training camp is only a few weeks away, and the fact that no one brought him in this spring is a bit telling. Most teams already have their QB2 on the roster, and the battle for QB3 will pick up in July and August.
There's a chance he's invited to training camp by someone, but the odds aren't high at this point. If he is brought in, it would likely be as a camp arm and not as a serious backup option. Learning an offensive scheme is never an easy task, especially as a quarterback.
Beathard hasn't been that impressive over his NFL career, and it appears he'll be sticking on the open market for the foreseeable future.
