The San Francisco 49ers have been focused this offseason on finding a way to correct the errors of last season. While it's obvious that the organization suffered from major injuries throughout the campaign, that doesn't mean that 2024 wasn't a failure.
It obviously was, which complicates matters following quarterback Brock Purdy's massive contract extension. Some players are already on thin ice in the aftermath, including one key deal that the franchise may come to regret due to its potential to become poison going forward.
Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, who won a Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, fits that mold. He's got an opportunity to earn a big role with the 49ers, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's earned.
both Demarcus Robinson (8) and Cooper Kupp (8) recorded more redzone TDs than Puka Nacua (6) over the last two seasons

49ers at Risk of Regretting WR Demarcus Robinson Signing
The issue with Robinson isn't his production, as he's clearly a productive player when on his game. Rather, it's about the outside influences corrupting his effort on the field. After what Ricky Pearsall went through last summer, it's disturbing to see a new acquisition suffer this much.
All fans should hope for a healthy reprieve and that Robinson becomes an effective wideout, similar to the way that Juauan Jennings broke out. Nonetheless, there are hard truths that need to be said, and this is one of them.
The 30-year-old receiver has issues but has been an excellent addition for multiple teams, so here's hoping he can replicate that success in the Bay. This is someone with 3,013 receiving yards and 27 touchdown grabs during his career. That's a fantastic mark, and Robinson is well-positioned to achieve success with head coach Kyle Shanahan calling the shots.
Purdy is fresh off a new extension and has $265 million worth of reasons to prove he has what it takes to be the 49ers' franchise signal-caller. After losing Deebo Samuel, Robinson should figure into the rotation to a large degree and must find a way to connect with his QB early and often.
At this point, San Francisco likely doesn't regret the signing; however, general manager John Lynch might if Robinson becomes an off-field distraction.
