The San Francisco 49ers have experienced a lot of turnover this offseason. One of the biggest pieces that moved was Deebo Samuel. On March 12, San Francisco traded Samuel to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round pick.
Despite no longer being on the team, quarterback Brock Purdy shared a hilarious story about Samuel. During an appearance on the "Built4More" podcast, Purdy spoke about some of his interactions with Samuel.
One interaction happened during practice when Purdy tossed Samuel a pass. The receiver walked back and talked smack to Purdy, but he didn't answer. Samuel then asked Purdy, "Bro, why are you so scared of me?β
He responded, "Dude, youβre Deebo! You're the guy that I watched growing up. I don't wanna say the wrong thing to you."

Brock Purdy Shares Funny Deebo Samuel Story
Samuel has been a very dynamic weapon ever since entering the league as a weapon. He can be explosive as a pass catcher with the ability as a ball carrier.
Over the last two seasons, when Purdy was the full-time starter, Samuel has posted 111 catches for 1,562 receiving yards and 10 receiving scores. He added 361 rushing yards with six scores on the ground.
He always gave the 49ers offense an electric weapon, and his presence had Purdy reserved at first. The two ended up creating a close bond during their tenure in San Francisco together but it took time for Purdy to open up to the former 49er.
Although he's no longer on the team anymore, Samuel had a lasting effect on Purdy. With him no longer in the fold, San Francisco will need to rely on Brandon Aiyuk, Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings in 2025. While Aiyuk's name has been floated in trade talks and he rehabs his knee injury, they'll be leaning on other players much more towards the beginning of the season.
That's when San Francisco will miss Samuel in 2025, but they'll have to find a way to get more production elsewhere.
