It has been a disappointing and frustrating NFL career for Trey Lance. After being selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, Lance hasn't been able to show why he was a top pick.

Lance has made stops with the 49ers and Dallas Cowboys but the latest reports showcase how much his stock has plummeted.

According to Aaron Kasinitz, Lance is drawing interest from the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL.

Trey Lance Drawing Interest From a CFL Team

Kasinitz revealed that the Roughriders added Lance to their negotiation list, meaning they have exclusive rights to work on a contract if he decides to enter the CFL.

There are some family ties for Lance, as his father, Carlton, played for the Roughriders in 1993.

While there are still some steps that need to be taken before heading to the CFL, that may be his best shot to get significant playing time on the field. His run with the 49ers was short-lived, starting four games for them.

In 2022, Lance broke his right ankle, which effectively ended his run with the 49ers. That led to him getting traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2023 but he didn't do anything over there as well.

Over 12 career games (5 starts), Lance has completed just 56% of his passes for 1,063 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, and four interceptions.

The 24-year-old came into the league as a talented signal caller who needed to develop to maximize his potential. He only had 17 career starts in college at North Dakota State, logging a 17-0 record. Despite all the tools, which featured a strong throwing arm and the athleticism to make plays with his legs, Lance hasn't put everything together.

Dallas didn't extend an offer to bring him back and it looks like his value on the market is extremely low. That could leave him to land in the CFL and play for the same team his father did.
