The San Francisco 49ers put a major piece of their offseason puzzle in place when they agreed to terms with Brock Purdy ona five-year, $265 million contract extensionon Friday afternoon. The deal, which includes $181 million in guaranteed money at signing and $215 million guaranteed through the first four years, was a big part of San Francisco’s spring as they made several moves to make the deal happen.

49ers fans have already begun celebrating the deal for their franchise quarterback, and the celebration has extended to the locker room. One San Francisco star has already made his feelings known on the deal and needed just one word to sum up his response on social media.

49ers RB Christian McCaffrey is Very Happy About Brock Purdy’s Extension

McCaffrey and the rest of the 49ers have reason to be excited about the deal.

Purdy has become the 49ers’ closest thing to a franchise quarterback since Joe Montana and Steve Young ruled the 80s and 90s and Colin Kaepernick led San Francisco to a Super Bowl in 2012. In three seasons as the 49ers’ starter, the 25-year-old has led San Francisco to a 23-13 record, a Super Bowl appearance in 2023, and completed 67.5% of his passes for 9,518 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions.

The presence of McCaffrey has also been a key part in Purdy’s success. McCaffrey came over to the 49ers in a trade with the Carolina Panthers around the time Purdy became the starter in 2022. With Purdy at quarterback, McCaffrey took off, running for 2,407 yards and 20 touchdowns while catching 134 passes for 1,174 yards and 11 touchdowns in 31 games.

With Purdy andfellow playmaker George Kittlecashing in this offseason, the 49ers have plenty of weapons even after trading Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders. It’s enough to make McCaffrey and the rest of the team feel optimistic about their chances as they look to erase the taste of a 6-11 season in 2025.
