There may not have been a team that has experienced more chance this offseason than the San Francisco 49ers. After an underwhelming 6-11 season, the 49ers have made some sweeping changes on the roster.

They decided to trade WR Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders for a 2025 fifth-round pick. In free agency, multiple players left town and fans are happy some of these guys are no longer in town.

Cornerback Rock Ya-Sin signed a one-year, $1.17 million deal with the Detroit Lions. He spent one season with the 49ers and was a disappointing defender in the secondary. In his lone campaign, Ya-Sin suited up in 13 games with zero starts.

Although he was active for the majority of games, Ya-Sin didn't do much of anything. He finished with just three total tackles and two pass deflections. The Temple product didn't log a snap nine of his 13 games.

According to PFF, he had a 44.2 overall grade (204th among 222 graded corners), a 48.5 run-defense grade (188th among 222 eligible corners), and a 50.3 coverage grade (177th among 222 graded corners).

The 49ers have also lost Charvarius Ward, Isaac Yiadom, and Talanoa Hufanga in free agency. San Francisco certainly needs to boost that unit in the NFL Draft. Michigan CB Will Johnson has been a frequently mocked defender to the 49ers but we'll have to see how if that becomes the case in a couple of weeks.

Regardless, Johnson would be stepping into the role of replacing Ward. Ya-Sin was brought in to be a veteran depth piece but he didn't even do that for the 49ers.

San Francisco brought back Robert Saleh to be their defensive coordinator and he'll be tasked with finding more production in the secondary. Ya-Sin was a disappointment for the 49ers in 2024 and fans won't miss him at all in 2025.
