Even though we are still in OTAs, the San Francisco 49ers haven’t stopped making changes to their 90-man roster. During this time of the year, the 90-man roster is a revolving door as free agents are brought in and out to see if they can compete for a spot on the 53-man roster.

On Tuesday, the 49ers are already parting ways with a veteran offensive lineman whom they just signed last month. San Francisco announced that they waived Nicholas Petit-Frere, who originally signed with the team on May 9.

Petit-Frere was the second veteran offensive lineman that the 49ers signed following the 2025 NFL draft. The other was Andre Dillard.

With Petit-Frere out the door, Austen Pleasants is the lone backup behind starting right tackle Colton McKivitz. The 25-year-old Petit-Frere was hoping to make the 49ers’ 53-man roster after spending the first three years of his career with the Tennessee Titans.

The Titans released Petit-Frere in April after appearing in 15 games and made 10 starts last season. According to Pro Football Focus, Petit-Frere had a disappointing 42.8 pass-blocking grade (123rd among 140 qualified tackles) and a 55.9 run-blocking grade (97th).

However, he was penalized 10 times and gave up 10 sacks (138th), which isn’t great for any offensive lineman, no matter the level of football.

Petit-Frere only played in three games (two starts) in the 2023 season as he was suspended for the first six games of the year for violating the league’s gambling policy. Then, after he made his return to the field in Week 6, Petit-Frere was placed on injured reserve weeks later in November of that year due to injury.

It hasn’t been easy for the now ex-49ers lineman, who had a solid rookie season with the Titans in 2022. The 25-year-old offensive tackle will search for his next opportunity over the next few weeks before training camp begins in July.
