5. K’Waun Williams, CB

Despite not initially being a part of the 2020 Pro Bowl ballot, K’Waun Williams could very well make an intriguing case to earn a trip to Hawaii this January.

Williams has emerged as legitimate playmakers in the 49ers defense this season and continues to excel while manning the nickel cornerback role. And while he’s not exactly a household name, his play is more than deserving of a Pro Bowl nod.

More from San Francisco 49ers

The former Cleveland Browns cornerback has received an 83.0 grade from Pro Football Focus this season which ranks in the top 10 at his position. And at one point just a couple of weeks ago, he was PFF’s highest-graded slot cornerback.

Williams has been a jack-of-all-trades, do-everything role player for the 49ers defense excelling in coverage, as a blitzer, and in run defense. And he has the stats to back it up.

On the season, Williams has totaled 35 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and a sack showing that he could do a little bit of everything.

He’ll definitely need some help to earn a spot given the league’s apparent bias against slot cornerbacks, but a few more big games and some added stat accumulation could help him solidify his case.

He may not be the most notable name on the ballot, but Williams is certainly deserving of the recognition based on his play alone.
