Warriors: 3 statistics that demonstrate the insanity of the team’s injury woes
By Justin Fried
2. 82 — Combined games missed by injured players
Not only have the Warriors piled up a long list of injuries — but those injuries have tended to be pretty long term. In fact, three of the 16 rostered players haven’t even played a game for the team this season.
And that’s not including Curry who will miss a significant portion of the season and Kevon Looney who checked in for 10 minutes before leaving with another injury.
All in all, Warriors players have combined to miss a whopping 82 games so far. That’s right, injured Warriors players have already combined to miss a complete NBA season through just 14 games.
To put that in perspective, the team with the second-most combined missed games is the Detroit Pistons whose players have combined to miss 42 games — just about half of the Warriors total.
Each of Klay Thompson, Jacob Evans, and Alen Smailagic have missed all 14 games so far while players like Looney, Curry, and Russell continue to add to the growing aggregate.
That 82 figure is already astounding but it will only continue to grow as the season progresses. Thompson may very well miss the remainder of the season and there is still no timetable for the returns of Evans and Smailagic.
Not to mention Russell’s recurring injuries and Curry’s absence for numerous months.
Expect the Warriors to hold this dubious distinction for the entirety of the season — and likely by a wide margin too.
