SANTA CLARA, CA – DECEMBER 23: Dante Pettis #18 of the San Francisco 49ers runs after a catch against the Chicago Bears during their NFL game at Levi’s Stadium on December 23, 2018 in Santa Clara, California San Francisco 49ers (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images) /

The 49ers receiving core was in shambles last season following injuries to the aforementioned Goodwin and Pierre Garcon. But perhaps no injuries were felt more than the ones suffered by Dante Pettis.

Pettis was limited to just 27 catches for 467 yards in his rookie season as the 23-year-old only played in 12 games, starting seven. Combine that with the absence of Garoppolo and Pettis’ numbers took a serious hit.

However, Pettis is healthy and Garoppolo is back under center which could be great news for the receiver’s fantasy production this year.

CBS Sports currently lists Pettis as the No. 38 wide receiver option in fantasy this season which could give him flex value, but it would keep him out of the WR1 or WR2 category. But don’t be surprised if Pettis exceeds his current expectations.

The speedy Washington product is a downfield threat with the potential for a big game any given Sunday. We saw flashes of Pettis’ big-play ability last season in spurts, but he’ll have to become more consistent if he’s to be considered a viable starting option in fantasy.

He should be given every opportunity to emerge as San Francisco’s No. 1 wideout which would only further increase his targets and, in turn, his fantasy output.

Pettis could be in-line for a breakout 2019 season, both on the gridiron and in fantasy.
