2. Kyle Guy

Kyle Guy started the summer off strong with impressive performances in the California Classic but finished even stronger with his showing in Las Vegas.

Guy averaged 12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in three games in Sacramento, but his Las Vegas averages of 16.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game were even better. As was his impressive 1.5 steals per game which showed the promise he has on defense.

While still very much undersized for his position, Guy has quick hands and feet on defense which allow him to get into passing lanes and force turnovers as we saw in the summer league. Still, his small stature makes it easy to run screens against him hurting his overall team defense.

But it’s his outside scoring ability that could carry him to an NBA career.

Guy is a dead-eye three-point shooter evidenced by his career 40% from long range while at Virginia. We saw glimpses of that this summer and even more production is expected to follow.

The Virginia product was signed to a two-way contract meaning that he should spend most of his rookie season down in Stockton. However, he will be eligible to spend 45 days up with Sacramento and a strong showing in the G-League could earn him some actual minutes in the team’s rotation.

Guy will still have to overcome his size and defensive limitations, but this was a strong start for a player who promises to be a ton of fun when he finally gets his chance to shine.
