The San Francisco 49ers dropped their season opener to Minnesota – let’s take a look at the good, bad, and ugly from that game.

For San Francisco 49ers fans, it was nice while it lasted – but perfection never lasts forever, does it?

49ers quarterback Jimmy Garaoppolo, who was riding a perfect 7-0 record as a starter – with five of those wins to close out San Francisco’s 2017 season – has the organization and its fans flying high with a hope and optimism that hasn’t been in existence since the Jim Harbaugh era.

The team, and the fans, got a reality check, as the team dropped its season opener to a man many thought would be under center for San Francisco, Kirk Cousins, and his Minnesota Vikings.

More from San Francisco 49ers

Garoppolo and the 49ers offense struggled early, put on a late rally, but fell short to the Vikings in the first week of NFL action, 24-16.

For the 49ers, it was unfortunately, a game that had more bad than good. That’s not to say though, there weren’t some bright spots among the disappointment. There certainly were. And there is plenty to take heart in as San Francisco comes home to take on Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions next week.

But – there is also a lot for them to work on. The Vikings exposed the 49ers in some areas, and took advantage of some weaknesses.

There is much for the 49ers to patch up and repair as they walk away from a disappointing season opening loss.

But, they’ll be well served by turning the page quickly, and getting ready for the Lions, who will be playing on a short week after opening their season on Monday night against Sam Darnold and the Jets.

It would behoove the 49ers to have a short memory. They may have dropped a game, and Garoppolo’s undefeated streak is over, but they have some good things to build on.

In the meantime, let’s take a look at some of the good, the bad, and the ugly from San Francisco’s season opening loss to Minnesota…
