The San Francisco 49ers continue extending contracts and next is wide receiver Marquise Goodwin. Read more for contract details and analysis!

The San Francisco 49ers have spent a good chunk of their money securing the futures of certain players. We’ve already seen the 49ers make deals with Jimmy Garoppolo, Daniel Kilgore, Garry Gilliam, and Cassius Marsh. You get the point. The 49ers are enjoying who they have on their roster right now and they feel like these players will be real contributors for the next few seasons. Marquise Goodwin is the latest in this line.

Garoppolo got the biggest deal of them all because what he showed in his five starts was enough to indicate that he is the quarterback that head coach Kyle Shanahan wants for the next five years.

Daniel Kilgore has been a 49er since 2011 and ended his season strong as well, too. Now that Kilgore knows who his quarterback will be next season, the center-quarterback chemistry will be pretty high.

Gilliam was brought back because the 49ers seem him as a reliable backup tackle, even though he went on injured reserve after his first start.

Marsh came over from the New England Patriots and was able to bring pressure to the quarterback, something the 49ers really struggled with last season. He can be another reliable factor in the pass rush over the course of his deal.

Today, the 49ers announced that another player was re-signed. That player was wide receiver Marquise Goodwin.

More from Golden Gate Sports

Goodwin was originally signed by the San Francisco 49ers last year in March, on a two-year, $8 million dollar deal.

However, Goodwin’s breakout season illustrated to the 49ers that he is a player that should be staying around longer.

With this new contract, Goodwin was re-signed to a three-year deal worth $20.3 million. In that deal, Goodwin will have $10 million guaranteed, as reported by Ian Rapaport.

The Player

A five-foot-nine target, Goodwin initially started his career playing for the Buffalo Bills. They were hoping for big and bright things out of him, but that never happened.

In his four seasons prior to joining the 49ers in the Bay, he had 49 catches for 780 yards and six touchdowns.

He topped his catches and yards totals in one season. This past season, Goodwin had a career-high 56 catches for a career-high 962 yards on 105 targets, another career high. He caught 46 passes for first downs, another career high. The only disappointing stat here is that he only had two touchdowns. If healthy, you can expect that number to go up next season.

Fit with the 49ers

Depending what the 49ers decide to do next with the wide receivers, Goodwin will be the number-two receiver on the team next season. The 49ers do get Pierre Garcon back, who has yet to play with Garoppolo, so it will be fun to see how that plays out.

But when Garoppolo became a starter, Goodwin’s potential expanded big time. He was used primarily as a deep threat due to his insane speed, but became a little of everything. He made more tough one-on-one catches, he dropped the ball less, he got separation easier, etc,. Goodwin displayed that he can be much more than just a speedy, deep threat.

Next: 49ers Should Sign Allen Robinson

Even though the Los Angeles Rams are stacking up with cornerbacks, the 49ers do have talented receivers to matchup against them. This is a well-deserved deal for Goodwin and if the 49ers do sign a high-caliber receiver like Allen Robinson, look out everyone.
