The San Francisco 49ers could target a wide receiver to bolster their core for next season. Allen Robinson could be a potential option.

The San Francisco 49ers have an opportunity to make some huge noise when the 2018 NFL free agency period opens in almost a week.

We’ve already covered potential options with Andrew Norwell, Jimmy Graham, Malcolm Butler, and Kyle Fuller (who was transition tagged).

Today’s option is another offensive weapon for a 49ers’ team that lacks size at the position. That player would be wide receiver Allen Robinson, who is currently on the Jacksonville Jaguars but will not be getting tagged by them.

This serves as huge news for multiple receiver-needy teams, including San Francisco.

Now receiver isn’t and shouldn’t be a position of need for the 49ers because they have plenty of talent that started producing when Jimmy Garoppolo took over. However, a talent like Robinson is something the 49ers do not currently possess.

Let’s take a quick look at the receivers who made the biggest impacts last season:

Pierre Garcon: 31-years-old and standing at six feet, Garcon has proved that he can catch any pass last season. However, he is coming off a neck injury and may not be the number one guy next season.

Marquise Goodwin: He can be the number one guy as we saw his chemistry sky rocket with Garoppolo. Teams know he will be a huge threat so having Robinson makes them guess more often. He’s also five-foot-nine.

Trent Taylor: He made an impact in his rookie season and made it known that he was a reliable third down target. Taylor is only five-foot-eight.

Kendrick Bourne: A six-foot-one receiver entering his second year, Bourne also made strides late in the season but could face heavy competition to make the roster this year.

Aldrick Robinson: A five-foot-ten receiver who caught two touchdowns last season. He could face heavy competition as well.

See the trends that occur here? The 49ers don’t have a receiver that can go up and get it. They have speedy deep threats, but Robinson provides a bit of everything that the 49ers don’t have.

Robinson is a 6’3″, 211-pound receiver who has showed immense potential in this league. He broke out big time in his sophomore season, where he caught 80 passes for 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns.

In the 2016 season, his production decreased to 73 catches for 883 yards and six touchdowns. Then in the 2017 season, he tore his ACL in week one and that was it.

Robinson could prove to be a huge signing for the 49ers. A one-year deal could also prove to be a low risk, high reward deal considering he is coming off of a severe injury. Keep in mind, Robinson is only 24 years old so he could be a huge steal.
