2016 NFL Combine Wrap-Up for the Cal Bears
Jared Goff, Quarterback
Measurables:
Height: 6’4″
Weight: 215 lbs.
Arm Length: 32-7/8″
Hand Size: 9″
Goff measured in with good height, but unsurprisingly was one of the lighter quarterbacks at 215 pounds, right in line with his officially listed weight in 2015. His arms are above the average length for his group, but the talk of the town were his hands, which measured in at nine inches, tied for the second-smallest. There has been a lot made of his small hands being detrimental to his NFL career, and only one quarterback drafted in the first round since 2008 (Ryan Tannehill) has had hands the same size as Goff.
Drills (position rankings):
40-Yard Dash: 4.82 (11/17)
Vertical Leap: 27″ (17/18)
Broad Jump: 110″ (12/17)
3-Cone Drill: 7.17 (9/15)
Athletically, Goff’s numbers were not eye-popping by any means. His 40-yard dash was right on the average score, but surprisingly beat some of the more athletics quarterbacks, like Paxton Lynch and Vernon Adams. He matched Brandon Doughty for the lowest vertical leap, was pedestrian in the broad jump, and in the middle of the pac in the three-cone test.

Where Goff shined, of course, was throwing the ball. Out of quarterbacks throwing, Goff had one of the cleanest throwing motions, and did well to place the ball in good spots for receivers. He was helped out by the player who went after him in drills, Christian Hackenberg, whose accuracy was far behind Goff’s.
The questions still exist regarding his size, and now more than before about the size of his hands, but Goff looked good as a passer during the Combine. Carson Wentz can stake the same claim, and there doesn’t seem to be a clear-cut number one quarterback in this draft. It’s up to the teams to decide now.
