Oh, the failed experiment that was Casey McGehee as the Giants’ third baseman. Positive moments were few and far between for McGehee as a Giant, but he sure did light up the crowd on May 8th.

The stage was set for McGehee. Before the game, he received his NL Comeback Player of the Year Award, and he was facing the team with which he earned that award, the Miami Marlins, with former teammate Jarred Cosart on the mound. In the second inning, with one out, a 3-1 count, and the home crowd waiting to cheer for the much embattled third baseman, Cosart left a fastball on the inner part of the plate.

McGehee smoked it to left-center field, and as the ball disappeared into the crowd, McGehee pumped a fist and released a scream while Duane Kuiper made a more enthusiastic than usual “Outta here!” call. That put the Giants up 4-0, and they would eventually win 6-0.

And don’t forget about the little birdie he flipped to Jake Peavy back in the dugout.

Things didn’t work out for McGehee in San Francisco, and he has made his way back to the Miami Marlins (things must have been a little awkward when he saw Cosart for the first time). However, McGehee will always have this one huge moment with the Giants.
