Oakland Will Draft A QB
It’s been amazing watching the amount of people who have piled on Derek Carr since the season ended, calling him out for the team’s 3-13 record — like that was all on him. While the majority — we think — seem to believe that Carr is the real deal, and will be Oakland’s franchise QB for some time to come, there is a sizable chunk of Raider fans who believe otherwise.
These people — and even a media talking head or two — are calling on McKenzie to trade Carr away and do what he needs to do to move up to make sure he drafts Marcus Mariota. Some are even suggesting the Raiders do everything in their power to land Jameis Winston.
Yeah, because that’s a scenario that would go really well.
In lieu of a trade, there are some Raider fans being incredibly vocal about the team’s œneed to draft a quarterback, be it Winston, Mariota, or otherwise. They don’t believe the Raiders can win with Carr — which is absurd given the fact that we haven’t seen what he can do with a real, live running game, as well as receivers who didn’t drop every other ball.
The very premise that the Raiders would trade Carr is ridiculous beyond all measure. All things considered, he had a pretty terrific rookie season, and he’s not going anywhere. Sorry about all of those of you who are clamoring for Winston and Mariota. Even sorrier for those of you still bitter about Terrelle Pryor being shipped out of town.
Carr has the physical as well as the mental attributes to be a very, very good quarterback in this league. And he certainly deserves — and will get — the chance to prove that this season.
