Johnson played for the Texans for 12 years after being selected with the third pick in the 2003 NFL draft. He’s put together a potential Hall of Fame career in Houston, but all of that appears to be coming to an end.
The cap strapped Texans decided to release Johnson after deciding that DeAndre Hopkins was ready to take over and be the team’s number one receiver. With Johnson being ushered out of Houston, he needs a new team to play for. The San Fransisco 49ers could be that team.

Johnson has stated multiple times that he wants to play for a contender. While the 49ers didn’t make the playoffs last year, they have been a perennial playoff contender in years prior. And when they are healthy, they are one of the best teams in the league. Adding Johnson would allow him to come in and be a leader on and off the field, while providing a solid receiver leading the troops.
New head coach, Jim Tomsula, has been in the league for 20-plus years, yet he is still a rookie head coach. Adding Johnson would give him a veteran to lean on, along with defense stars NaVorro Bowman and Patrick Willis.
Johnson has always been a no-nonsense type player, as is evidenced by his infamous fight with Cortland Finnegan in 2010. Johnson would add another player to preach the hardnosed type football the 49ers have played in the past. They type of football fans hope they get back to playing again soon.
Andre Johnson could come in for the 49ers and immediately be their number one wide receiver. He would be a great veteran add on a decently priced contract. Johnson wouldn’t necessarily help the future of the franchise, but he may help propel the 49ers to another deep playoff run in 2015-16.
