49ers Out of the Playoffs With Loss to Seattle
By David Ochoa
The San Francisco 49ers needed to travel to Seattle and beat the Seahawks in order to stay alive in the playoff race. It looked like they had a chance early, but injuries and the typical second half slump had something to say about that. The 49ers tried to tread water for as long as they could, but inevitably sank. The 49ers lose to the Seahawks by the score of 17-7.

The game started off promising as the defense was able to get stops, and the 49ers took an early 7-3 lead. The 49ers looked to hold the momentum going into halftime with an Eric Reid interception, but in typical fashion, the 49ers hit a wall in the second half. However, for once it might have not been their own faults.
The 49ers have been plagued with injuries all season, but it seemed like it all came to a head in this important game against Seattle. The 49ers were out starting corner Chris Culliver and starting center Marcus Martin to start the game. It only went downhill from there as a horde of players followed suit.
The 49ers ended up losing multiple key players. Frank Gore, Carlos Hyde, Chris Borland, Ahmad Brooks, and Garrett Celek were all notable losses. Antonio Smith and Michael Wilhoite also appeared to be injured, but played for a bit after their apparent injuries.
After a couple ugly losses in Seattle in previous match ups, this depleted 49ers squad was still able to suck it up and play a tough game. Unfortunately just being tough isn’t enough to qualify for the playoffs.

Colin Kaepernick played his best game in weeks, but it still wasn’t that great nor was it enough. Kaepernick finished the game with 141 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. With Joe Looney filling in at center, the line struggled at times and allowed Kaepernick to be sacked six times.
The running game appeared to be going well early on, but the 49ers lost both Gore and Hyde, and that was the end of that. Kaepernick tried picking up the slack as he ran for 46 yards on nine attempts.
The defense played a decent game despite being extremely thin in the secondary, but after the injury to Borland and a ridiculous call on Nick Moody, it all fell apart. Once Borland left the game, Marshawn Lynch went off and gashed the 49ers for 91 yards with one touchdown.
Russell Wilson threw for 168 yards with one touchdown and interception against the 49ers’ depleted secondary. The 49ers were forced to play Dontae Johnson, Leon McFadden, and Marcus Cromartie in the secondary. However, the defense was able to sack Wilson five times.
The 49ers season is practically over, despite having two games left. They will probably use the rest of the season to just get healthy.
