Along with showing interest in Lester, Jon Heyman reported last week that the Giants have reached out to Max Scherzer‘s agent (Scott Boras), after the Giants lost out on Pablo Sandoval and Yasmany Tomas.
The Giants are currently in a “wait and see” mode with Lester, so depending on where he signs, the Giants’ interests in Scherzer could grow. Like Lester, Scherzer is another “ace” type of pitcher who would bolster the Giants’ pitching staff. Any pitcher that signs with the Giants would likely thrive in San Francisco, given how AT&T Park is a “pitcher friendly” ballpark.
Lester would be a better signing over Scherzer given Scherzer’s up and down seasons in his career, but signing Scherzer as a consolation prize to Lester would still be a great pick up for the Giants.
