By David Ochoa

After winning two previous close games, the San Francisco 49ers survived yet another one against the Washington Redskins. After struggling for most of the game, the 49ers offense was able to come back from 13-10 and score in the fourth quarter. The 49ers can breathe a sigh of relief as they win this one by a score of 17-13.

The 49ers’ first possession of the game showcased a smooth offense that many were expecting to see all season. However, after the short flash of brilliance, the 49ers offense fell back to Earth and struggled for the rest of the game.
On paper, Colin Kaepernick had a good game. He went 20/29 with 256 yards and one touchdown and interception. Despite the offense consistently stalling, the 49ers won this game on the back of Kaepernick’s arm and Anquan Boldin‘s hands. When all hope seemed lost, Kaepernick hooked up with Boldin a couple times which led to the game winning Carlos Hyde touchdown run. Boldin finished the game with nine receptions for 137 yards and a single score.

The Redskins’ defense shut down the 49ers running game, as the tandem of Frank Gore and Hyde only amounted to 52 yards on 20 carries. Because of the inability to run and both Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree struggling to hold on to passes, it is no wonder why the 49ers’ offense hit a wall so many times.
Once again, the 49ers’ defense stepped up and carried the offense. Despite the offense giving up three turnovers, the defense held Robert Griffin to only 106 yards. With Aldon Smith back the pass rush has finally come alive, and the defense sacked Griffin five times.
The 49ers’ defense did struggle against the run as Alfred Morris hit 125 yards on 21 carries including one score. This was also the first 100 yard game for Morris this season.
The 49ers are continuing to learn to cope with adversity, as they somehow pull of another close game.
