By David Ochoa
The San Francisco 49ers played their second consecutive east coast game with this game against the New York Giants. While the game looked ugly at times, the 49ers stay alive in the playoff race by earning their second straight win by a score of 16-10.

The 49ers seemingly dominated the game, but like usual, they were unable to finish out the game. The 49ers defense came away with five Eli Manning interceptions and multiple clutch stops. However on the other side of the ball, the offense continued to struggle to put up points.
Manning was giving out interceptions this game and multiple 49ers’ players took advantage of it. Eric Reid, Michael Wilhoite, Chris Culliver, and Chris Borland all came away with at least one interception. Each interception came at a clutch time when the Giants were driving down the field, including one on fourth down on the five yard.
The offense seemed to get off to a hot start by driving down the field at ease on the opening drive. Unfortunately Frank Gore fumbled, and it led to the Giants’ only touchdown of the game. Besides that one hiccup, Gore had a good game by racking up 95 yards on 19 carries.

Colin Kaepernick had a decent game by going 15/29 with 193 yards and one 48 yard touchdown to Michael Crabtree. Outside of the stats, the offense didn’t look good at all. The defense gave them multiple chances to put the game away, but they were unable to land the knockout punch.
Despite this, the 49ers held on enough at the end to come away with the win. This was Aldon Smith‘s first game of the season, and his presence was made known. With Smith and Aaron Lynch coming off the edges, Manning had to hurry many of his throws.
The win is squarely on the defense’s shoulders as they held on at the goal line to win the game. The Giants still did rack up yards on the 49ers as Rueben Randle and rookie Odell Beckham Jr. earned 112 and 93 yards respectively. However, it was not enough to put the Giants over the top.
