Oakland Raiders: A Complete Team Victory

The Oakland Raiders truly put together a complete team victory against the Cleveland Browns. It was one of those special wins that makes you feel thrilled about the rest of the season. Our Silver and Black are 2-1 and ready to prove that they are a team on the rise.

A number of Raiders players deserve recognition for their solid performances. The team’s future elite quarterback, Derek Carr, had the best all-around performance of his career so far. He completed 20 of 32 passes for 314 yards and two touchdowns.

Just like last week, Carr looked cool and confident as he led the offense to five scoring drives. Some people may have called Carr over-hyped at the start of the season, but his numbers prove that he’s legit. The Oakland Raiders have finally found their franchise QB who will always increase their chance at victories.

Carr’s coverage reads were great throughout the entire game as well. He appeared patient and decisive in the pocket, and the Browns didn’t have an answer for his sharp performance. The duo of Carr and Amari Cooper is also proving offseason predictions correct. Together, these two will become the deadliest QB/WR pair in the AFC.

Despite a lost fumble, Cooper looked like a four-year veteran. The way he runs routes and creates space between himself and defenders is outstanding. Cooper had an impressive eight receptions for 134 yards. That’s the kind of stuff that will earn him an Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.

The offensive line of the Oakland Raiders also deserves a shout-out. They didn’t allow any sacks during the entire game, and their effective blocking led to 139 rushing yards and a touchdown for Latavius Murray. This is the game in which Murray proved he’s the main guy for the Raiders in the backfield.

Murray has all of the tools; he’s big, strong, and fast. He could become the top running back in the AFC if he keeps up this great productivity. A number of things about Murray’s style makes him similar to a younger Adrian Peterson. Murray is simply a powerful and balanced runner who can either run through or around defenders.

More from Derek Carr

With all of the great offensive performances, the Raiders’ defense stayed fresh the entire game. Defenders such as Charles Woodson, Khalil Mack, and Malcolm Smith played with a great drive of energy and aggression. The Raiders’ defense recorded five sacks, and they pressured the Brown’s QB extremely well all day.

Just when it seemed like the Browns could make a comeback, Charles Woodson secured the win with a clutch interception. He left the game and returned quickly after an apparent injury, so that made his pick much more impressive. Woodson is the epitome of this Oakland Raiders team that will fight for the entire 60 minutes of a game.
