This offseason has been a whirlwind for the San Francisco 49ers. They have made a ton of movement on the roster but they are ready to turn the page. Rookie minicamp started taking place, and it's the 49ers' turn this weekend.
San Francisco's minicamp runs from May 9 to May 10 and they aren't the only team doing so. The Pittsburgh Steelers also have rookie minicamp happening from May 9 to May 11. It's not only rookies who will be in attendance, as teams use this opportunity to work out veterans.
The Steelers decided to bring in 25 players for a tryout, and two former 49ers were on the list. RB Trey Sermon and LS Taybor Pepper will get a shot to sway the coaching staff over the weekend and potentially get an invite to OTAs and training camp.

Trey Sermon and Taybor Pepper Will Tryout for the Steelers
Sermon was a third pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the 49ers. The team thought they were getting a bruising tailback who would be a contributor for years to come, but that didn't transpire. As a rookie in 2021, Sermon had 41 carries for 167 rushing yards and one score.
The 49ers ended up waiving Sermon in 2022. He then played for the Eagles and Colts, failing to stick on at either spot.
As for Pepper, he was with San Francisco from 2020-2024. With the team undergoing a roster overhaul, Pepper was released in March and they signed Jon Weeks, who was with the Texans for 15 years.
Both guys have been on 53-man rosters in their careers and seek to do so again in 2025. The Steelers gave them an opportunity to impress the staff and stick with the team. Whether or not that comes true remains to be seen, but they will get a three-day trial run to see if something can move on that front.
