San Francisco 49ers rookie defensive end Mykel Williams is expected to be an impact player this upcoming season, playing opposite Nick Bosa.

The 49ers took Williams with the No. 11 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft because they believe he could help re-ignite this defense that only had 37 sacks last season. However, before Williams takes the field, he’s already trying to garner some favor from his new quarterback, Brock Purdy.

On Up & Adams with Kay Adams, she mentioned that Purdy had just gotten paid, in which the rookie defender responded, “Thank God.”

Williams continued, “Brock’s the guy. I believe in Brock Purdy.” Then Adams asked Williams why he believes in Purdy.

“He’s done it. He’s went to a Super Bowl. He’s shown that he can take the team to that realm. So why not pay him, why not believe in him?”

Mykel Williams Already Giving Brock Purdy His Props

Clearly, the rookie defensive end is excited that Purdy will be under center for the long term after signing a huge five-year, $265 million contract.

Williams has yet to play with Purdy in a game or practice against him, but is already all-in on the starting quarterback. You can't blame the rookie for his excitement, as Purdy has had an incredible run to start his career, which includes two NFC title games and a Super Bowl appearance.

That said, for the 49ers to return to that spot, Purdy will be looking for Williams and the other players to step up on defense this season after San Francisco lost several veterans in free agency. However, the 49ers’ front office made sure that they had the young talent ready to step in.

Williams, DT Alfred Collins (second round), LB Nick Martin (third round), CB Upton Stout (third round), and DT CJ West (fourth round) have a chance to compete for starting jobs and get this unit back on track under defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.
