The San Francisco 49ers have turned over their roster after a 6-11 campaign in 2024. Deebo Samuel, Javon Hargrave, Charvarius Ward, Leonard Floyd, and Dre Greenlaw are some of the names that have walked out the door and the list continued to grow when San Francisco released Kyle Juszczyk.

The All-Pro fullback hit the market after eight seasons with the 49ers, becoming a free agent for the first time since he signed a five-year, $27 million contract in 2017. Although Juszczyk signed a two-year, $9.1 million extension last offseason, it appeared like his time in San Francisco was done as he visited the Pittsburgh Steelers this week.

But just as it appeared that Juszczyk would don the perfect fullback aesthetic, the 49ers came swooping in and came to terms on a reunion that few saw coming.

Kyle Juszczyk Returns to 49ers on Reduced Contract

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers have agreed to terms on a two-year, $8 million contract to bring Juszczyk back for the 2025 season. A source adds that the 33-year-old took a smaller salary than what the Steelers were offering, paving the way for Juszczyk to return to the place where his career took off.

Juszczyk was a fourth-round selection by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2013 draft and came to San Francisco in 2017. He’s been named to the Pro Bowl in each of his eight seasons with the 49ers and was a first-team All-Pro in 2023 and a second-team All-Pro in 2024. He’s carried the ball 60 times for 212 yards and five touchdowns and caught 184 passes for 1,895 yards and 13 touchdowns with the 49ers. But he’s also been a solid blocker, posting a 69.7 Pro Football Focus grade on 239 run-blocking snaps last season.

The move also solidifies the 49ers' backfield, which also has Christian McCaffrey returning from an injury-plagued season. With Jordan Mason and Isaac Guerendo also set to return, Kyle Shanahan’s running game should be in good shape with Juszczyk back in the fold.
