While the San Franciso 49ers didn't meet expectations in 2024, having their first losing season in four years and missing the postseason entirely, their star tight end George Kittle was his usual self. He had his fourth 1,000+ yard season and made his sixth Pro Bowl in his eight-year career.

At this point, Kittle is undeniably one of the three best tight ends in the league. Yet, it is his off-the-field achievements that perhaps deserve more praise. The NFL and USAA acknowledged Kittle's work outside of football on Wednesday.

George Kittle Wins NFL's Annual Salute to Service Award

Kittle was awarded the 2024 Salute to Service Award by the NFL and USAA, the league's official partner. Per the official team statement, the award recognizes efforts made by members of the NFL to honor and support the military community. He will be recognized on Thursday during the Super Bowl Week in New Orleans.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell released a statement congratulating Kittle on this "tremendous achievement."

"His dedication to honoring service members and involvement with numerous military organizations makes him the perfect choice for this honor. The NFL family is proud of his dedication to give back to those who sacrifice for our country and congratulates him on this tremendous achievement."

The 49ers revealed that Kittle is an active participant in the team's Salute to Service programming. The 31-year-old hosts military personnel and frontline heroes at every home game and has donated hundreds of tickets over the last six years, per the team. Moreover, Kittle has donated over $250,000 to military nonprofits and has the Founding Hidden Pearls Podcast, where he highlights stories of military members. He helped develop an app offering free mental health resources to veterans.

As great of a player as he is on the field, Kittle has been as impressive outside the gridiron. We are proud to have him as a part of Niner Nation.
