At the end of May, the San Francisco 49ers pulled off an unexpected trade. San Francisco acquired edge rusher Bryce Huff from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional sixth-round pick. Huff left Philadelphia disgruntled due to not being a great fit in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's defense.
On Tuesday, the 27-year-old went into more detail about his displeasure with the Eagles during an interview on TheSFNiners YouTube Channel. Huff said, "If I'm being 100% honest with you, I wanted a trade like fairly early on. And just cause of how things went in Philly, I knew pretty early on it wasn't a fit."
He added, "I knew a trade wasn't going to happen during the [2024] season. But I talked to my agent about it and was like, when it's all set and done, I might need to step to put myself in the best position... I kind of knew where it was headed fairly early on into the season."

Bryce Huff Reveals What Went Wrong in Philadelphia
Huff's comments shouldn't be surprising to any football fans, especially 49ers fans. Last year, he saw a major decrease in snaps and production after signing a three-year $51 million contract with the Eagles.
In 2024, Huff recorded two sacks, one quarterback hit, 17 QB hurries and 20 QB pressures on 285 snaps, according to PFF. Though he dealt with a torn ligament in his wrist, which caused him to miss five games, Philadelphia expected a lot more out of Huff.
The year prior, he broke out, recording 10 sacks, 12 QB hits, 45 QB Hurries, and 67 QB pressures on 481 snaps. Be that as it may, Huff clearly didn't fit Fangio's scheme, which he admitted he realized early on, causing him to want out.
Now in San Francisco, Huff reunites with his former head coach/ defensive coordinator, Robert Salah. Salah's coaching and scheme are what helped the 27-year-old break out in the first place. So, 49ers fans' hopes are high that he can look more like he did in his final year with the New York Jets, instead of what he looked like last year with the Eagles.
