One of the biggest storylines surrounding the NFL during Super Bowl week is Myles Garrett's surprise trade request. Every team in the league could use his services and the San Francisco 49ers certainly aren't an exception.
Though injuries were a big culprit, the 49ers ranked just 23rd in sacks per game (2.2) after spending the last half-decade as an elite defensive team. Garrett had 14 sacks himself this year and could help turn things around, especially when paired with Nick Bosa.
Star tight end George Kittle, who just revealed his agent is having conversations about a contract extension, made a pitch to Garrett about why he should come to San Francisco.

George Kittle Makes Recruiting Pitch to Myles Garrett
"Yeah, I think Myles Garrett is a pretty good football player," Kittle said when asked by Kay Adams on Up & Adams if he'd be interested in the theoretical trade. "I'm all for adding really good football players to my roster...You don't have to score as many points when you have a guy like Nick Bosa and/or Myles Garrett on this side."
Kittle added that he spoke with All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner and that adding a defensive lineman of Garrett's caliber would make life easier for the rest of the defense as well.
Garrett is under contract for two more seasons with cap hits hovering around $20 million. It'd be tricky for San Francisco to acquire him with potential extensions for Kittle and Brock Purdy coming up, as well as other big deals on the books, though it's possible with some maneuvering. At the very least, the 49ers should explore the option, as perhaps no other move could immediately transform their defense like this one would.
Purdy's contract will ultimately determine the feasability. If he accepts some sort of discount relative to the market, there will be space to have someone like Garrett on the team. Should Purdy demand one of the largest salaries in the sport, things become more complicated.
Either way, it sounds like Kittle is fully on board.
"Hey Myles, we could be really good friends," Kittle continued. "I promise."
Perhaps his recruiting pitches need some work, though San Francisco could give Garrett his first real opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl. This would be a mutually beneficial relationship and now fans just have to wait and see where the dominos fall.
