The San Francisco 49ers have been working hard at OTAs and while there's some excitement, much attention has been paid to the rookie class coming out of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Perhaps the organization passed on some exciting players, but there's reason to believe that this class will help the franchise move forward. Regardless, there are some former coaches making waves and one ex-49er is among them.
Chip Kelly, who served as the organization's head coach in a brief 2016 stint, is creating headlines based on his opinions with his new franchise.
Former 49ers Head Coach Chip Kelly Battles Haters in New Media Comments
Appearing to the media with his new team, the Las Vegas Raiders' offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, has some intriguing comments regarding star running back Ashton Jeanty's new positional stance change during OTAs.
"It literally is about three inches," Kelly said. "So I don't think it's that big a deal."
He was referring, of course, to Jeanty's adjustment from how he takes his snaps on a running back route. The No. 6 overall pick changes his alignment and is in a different footstance now, which has caused some concern for the Raiders faithful. That concern is likely unwarranted given both Jeanty's success and how poorly Las Vegas' running game has fared over the last decade, but it exists nonetheless.
Kelly poured cold water on that though, and it's nice to see him take command after such a miserable effort with San Francisco. He went just 2-14 as the 49ers coach and was fired after just one year, though speculation remains around the fan base that it was general manager Trent Baalke's fault, and the latter has done nothing in the years since to change that narrative.
Either way, Kelly has an excellent chance to re-establish his reputation. Based on the early results, it sounds like he's well on his way toward accomplishing that goal.
