San Francisco 49ers fans have spent the NFL offseason hoping that the team has made enough improvements to bounce back in 2025. The 49ers' 2024 performance was forgettable, to say the least, as Kyle Shanahan's team finished with only six wins, marking their first missed playoff appearance since the 2020 campaign.
With the 2025 NFL draft around the corner, the 49ers will soon have another opportunity to continue shaping next year's roster. Unfortunately, it was just revealed that San Francisco will be without one player come Week 1 in September.
49ers OT Isaac Alarcon Suspended 6 Games for PED Policy Violation
According to Pro Football Talk's Myles Simmons, the NFL has suspended 49ers offensive tackle Isaac Alarcon for six games "for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy." The 6-foot-7, 320-pound blocker can still participate in training camp and the preseason; however, he can't join his teammates until Week 7 or 8, depending on when the bye week falls.

Alarcon, 26, is a former Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education product who made his way to the NFL as a part of the league's International Player Pathway Program. The Monterrey, Nuevo León, native started his professional run with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 but has been with the 49ers since signing a future contract during the 2024 offseason.
Niners fans shouldn't feel bad if they forgot Alarcon was still on the roster. The veteran blocker spent the entire 2024 season on San Francisco's practice squad before signing another future deal in January. Much to his dismay, though, his six-game suspension will put his NFL debut on hold again.
Time will tell if Alarcon will ever play a game in a 49ers uniform. Although he has some potential due to his ability to play both sides of the offensive line, San Francisco might not be as interested in his services as it once was following his off-field controversy.
The 49ers only have room for the most serious contributors, meaning Alarcon must clean up his act if he wants to stick around for the 2025 campaign and beyond.
The good news is that Alarcon's minor role on the team means San Francisco won't miss him too much during his suspension. In fact, the 49ers currently own the 10th-best Super Bowl 60 odds (+2500) on FanDuel Sportsbook just over a week out from the NFL draft.
