Though the San Francisco 49ers didn't participate in this year's Super Bowl, they did have some connections to the Big Game. The Kansas City Chiefs trotted out ex-Niner Charles Omenihu in their losing effort, while former San Francisco linebacker Oren Burks stepped up for the Philadelphia Eagles during the 40-22 win.
However, there was another former 49er who collected a Super Bowl ring, as running back Tyrion Davis-Price spent most of the 2024 season on Philly's practice squad.
The Eagles even signed the LSU product to a futures deal this offseason, but it turns out this dream situation has come crashing down for Davis-Price after the draft.

On Sunday, Philadelphia announced it was releasing Davis-Price in order to sign rookie wide receiver Giles Jackson. The timing of this move could not have been worse for TDP, who's now tasked with finding a new home after most RB-needy teams already addressed that position in the draft.
This is yet another bump in the road for Davis-Price, who was a third-round pick by the 49ers in 2022. After only seven appearances and a little over 100 yards, though, he was allowed to sign with the Eagles during the 2024 offseason.
Philadelphia's run-centric approach gave TDP a golden opportunity. He was even called up from the practice for one appearance during the campaign, recording seven yards on three attempts in a Week 17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
The fact the Eagles opted to re-sign him after the Super Bowl win teased good things in store for his future. It'd be no surprise if Philadelphia tries to manage star RB Saquon Barkley's reps in 2025 to help their repeat hopes, so Davis-Price may have been able to carve out some kind of role.
Instead, he'll now seek out the third team of his career entering his fourth year in the NFL.
