The NFL league year officially started at 4 p.m. EST on Wednesday. This meant that the trades, signings, and roster moves that were announced over the last few weeks became official.
This includes the Deebo Samuel trade. The San Francisco 49ers announced the deal that sent Samuel to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round pick.
Following the trade, the star wide receiver shared various messages on social media for his teammates, including Brock Purdy.

Deebo Samuel Sends Message of Support to Brock Purdy Amid Contract Negotiations
Sharing a photo of the two of them, Samuel tagged his former quarterback and wrote, "Get what you deserve family!" referring to the ongoing contract negotiations between Purdy and the 49ers. Accompanying the post was a song by Fridayy aptly named "Came Too Far".
How far Purdy has come is indeed impressive. Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL Draft, Purdy quickly turned himself into one of the best quarterbacks in the league. In his second season in the NFL, he was arguably the best QB before taking a step back like the rest of the team in 2024.
Now, he is in line for a massive payday. Entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, Purdy is looking at a multi-year deal with an annual average salary of over $40 million.
Samuel is in the same boat as his former teammate. The former Pro Bowler also has one more year remaining on his contract, with a cap hit of $17.5 million in 2025 for the Commanders.
Washington can give him an extension before the season or wait it out and see whether he can return to his 2021 form before making that decision. Regardless of what they decide to do, Samuel obviously needed a fresh start, and he will be getting it catching passes from talented phenom Jayden Daniels.
