The San Francisco 49ers have made a ton of moves along the roster. One of the biggest ones came when they traded WR Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders for a 2025 fifth-round pick.
Samuel officially requested a trade in his exit meeting and the 49ers made sure to honor that. With the South Carolina product in the rearview mirror, he revealed that he will officially be wearing No. 1 in Washington.
With that news going public, Commander fans aren't thrilled by that idea.

Commander Fans Arenβt Happy With Deebo Samuel
One comment said, "We wanted you in 19 dude." Another fan said, "Man put him in 19 immediately we don't want uno deebo."
Last March, Samuel officially changed from No. 19 to No. 1, but his production took a dip. In 2024, he finished with 670 receiving yards, 136 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns. Samuel didn't look like the same player who thrived in San Francisco years prior.
There were reports that said that Samuel was 20 pounds overweight, which certainly played a role in his stats taking a hit.
Commander fans wanted Samuel to don No. 19, as his best days in the NFL were with that number. From 2019-2023, he had 283 receptions for 4,122 receiving yards, and 19 receiving scores. During that same span, he finished with 1,007 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns.
While it's not the same serious that Samuel will be wearing No. 1, he isn't getting off on the right foot with the fanbase. The latest visual of Samuel suiting up in No. 1 isn't a positive one for him.
Regardless of what they think, Samuel wearing No. 1 goes back to his college days. He suited up wearing that with the Gamecocks and is ready to bring that juice back with the Commanders in 2025.
Whether or not he regains that burst wearing No. 1 remains to be seen but it's clear Commander fans aren't happy with that idea.
