The San Francisco 49ers obviously labored through a difficult 2024 campaign, missing the postseason for the first time since 2020. Their roster is undergoing some turnover, particularly with the impending potential contract extension for Brock Purdy, which adds pressure on the existing veterans to pick up some of the slack.
Long considered one of the NFL's elite defenses, San Francisco fell off late in the year. While injuries played a large role in that, it's clear that improvements need to be made.
Recognizing the challenge, veteran defensive back Deommodore Lenoir made a bold declaration on social media about himself and teammate Renardo Green.
Me and Nardo #1 Duo 2025 stamp that I’m telling you

Deommodore Lenoir Declares He and Renardo Green Will Be NFL's Best DB Duo
Lenoir jumped on X (formerly known as Twitter), saying, "Me and Nardo #1 Duo 2025 stamp that I'm telling you". Essentially, he's saying that he and Green will be the top defensive back duo in 2025 and you can guarantee it.
While Lenoir and Green are an excellent pair, they have a ways to go. Lenoir ranked 71st out of 222 qualified defensive backs at Pro Football Focus while Green was 57th. Those are good numbers but not excellent ones, though the duo is assuredly working hard this offseason to improve.
Both are young, with Green entering only his second season, so there's reason to believe they can grow. Should the 49ers' defensive line stay healthy, an effective pass rush will make things easier for them as well. If San Francisco is going to put 2024 behind them and return to the playoffs, improved play from the secondary will play a large role.
There's also the fact that the NFC features several dynamic wide receiver duos, from A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith to Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, there's no shortage of fearsome opponents. Lenoir and Green have to be able to contain those types of players to compete for a Super Bowl, and it sounds like they're ready for the challenge.
For San Francisco's sake, Lenoir better be ready to put his money where his mouth is.
