The San Francisco 49ers have had a lot of turmoil at the receiver position, starting with Deebo Samuel being dealt to the Washington Commanders. With injuries continuing to pile up for the veteran receiver, it made sense to turn the page. For Washington, it gives Jayden Daniels an established second option with playoff experience.
However, this wasn't the end of the drama with receiver Jauan Jennings making offseason waves. Jennings is dealing with an expiring contract and wants security before stepping into an elevated role.
From the perspective of Jennings, it makes sense, especially with George Kittle, Fred Warner, and Brock Purdy all given recent extensions. It is easy for the playmaker to make a case that he deserves this same security, with the franchise asking him to step into a new role. The departure of Samuel changes the expectations, and Jennings expects the contract to reflect this.
Regardless, the 49ers haven't remained content with receiver shuffling in and out of pieces over the last weeks of the offseason. The latest addition is a veteran with a familiar last name.
49ers Sign Depth Receiver Ahead of Training Camp
The 49ers signed WR Equanimeous St. Brown to their 90-man roster at the opening of training camp. He is a six-year NFL veteran who appeared in two games with no catches for the Saints last year.

San Francisco signing Equanimeous St. Brown is a great decision that gives the veteran a chance to find a home at the bottom of the depth chart. St. Brown's brother currently plays for the Detroit Lions, having put together an impressive career of his own. While Equamineous isn't the threat his brother has proven to be, the veteran is still a valuable depth piece who landed with one of the league's best offensive minds.
If there is anyone capable of putting the veteran in a contributing role, it is the 49ers' head coach. While St. Brown isn't expected to be handed a heavy load, the veteran will likely earn plenty of camp and preseason chances to change minds about his standing in the organization.
For San Francisco, it is a solid depth move that gives you the chance to add an experienced veteran to the final roster spot at the position. No question, it is a solid signing and one that makes the preseason just a bit more interesting as the 49ers attempt to find redemption from the 2024 season.
