The San Francisco 49ers made headlines during Super Bowl weekend when Deebo Samuel confirmed he had asked for a trade. The former All-Pro had grown disgruntled with his role in Kyle Shanahan’s offense last season and asked to be traded during the team’s exit meetings last month but now the focus is on which team could pull off a blockbuster deal and who the top suitors could be.

While every team is looking to add a playmaker like Samuel, there’s no indication what his market will be. Although he was a multipurpose weapon with 1,770 yards from scrimmage and 14 total touchdowns during his All-Pro season in 2021, that was already three years ago and leads to a scenario that will be disappointing for 49ers fans.

DraftKings Sportsbook’s next team odds for Deebo Samuel (only available in some markets) throw a bucket of cold water on where the star receiver could end up next season.

The 49ers check in at +250 for Samuel’s next team in 2025 with the Denver Broncos following up at +650 and the Washington Commanders placing third at +850. While the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers round out the top five, Samuel’s most likely option remains with the 49ers which creates an interesting picture moving forward.

Samuel has been one of the league’s most dynamic playmakers since arriving in San Francisco in 2019 but has never played a full season. The 29-year-old’s All-Pro campaign featured a career-high 16 games played but Samuel has missed games due to injury in each of the past three seasons while failing to clear 700 receiving yards twice.

This past season was the final straw for Samuel, who caught 51 passes for 670 yards and three touchdowns. While he insists that his slump had more to do with the offense than his performance, other teams may feel differently and may not be willing to give up enough for a player who has a $15.8 million cap hit for next season and four void years worth $33.1 million from 2026 to 2029.

The contract and on-field performance could be deterrents in constructing a trade and could leave Samuel’s trade speculation as rumors as he looks for a new team in the coming weeks.
