This offseason, the San Francisco 49ers hit the proverbial reset button as they let go of many veterans. Players such as Dre Greenlaw, Charvarius Ward, Talanoa Hufanga and many others left in free agency. At the same time, San Francisco traded veteran wide receiver Deebo Samuel.

Following those moves, the 49ers' front office stated they planned to inject more youth into the team. That said, a few key veterans remain on the team, including tight end George Kittle and linebacker Fred Warner. Given that both players' contracts expire following the 2025 season, they are both looking for extensions.

However, each respective player is handling their situation differently. Kittle chose not to show up to the 49ers' first day back at the facility on Monday, while Warner did.

During Warner's time at the facility, he spoke to the media about his contract negotiations. According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Warner said he's confident his agent and the 49ers will work out his contract over time and that he plans to be on hand throughout the offseason, training camp, etc.

Fred Warner Promises to Take Part in Offseason Activities Despite Lack of New Contract

Warner's promise to be a part of offseason activities despite his lack of a contract extension is exactly what 49ers fans want to hear. Last offseason, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was in a contract dispute with San Francisco, which resulted in him sitting out the offseason. Aiyuk's holdout led to a slow start to the season, which then ended prematurely in Week 7 after a major knee injury.

Kittle seems to be repeating the same thing Aiyuk did last offseason right now. Although the 31-year-old tight end has earned the ability to hold out for more money, given how productive he has been throughout his career. It's still not a good look for a presumed leader.

Warner, on the other hand, could choose to do what Kittle is doing, especially since he is younger. Thus, his commitment to staying with the team during contract negotiations shows the type of leader he is.

As one of the best linebackers in the game, Warner deserves to be compensated as such. 49ers fans would love for a contract extension to get done sooner rather than later for Warner.
