The San Francisco 49ers have used the past couple of months to find different ways to improve the roster. They used free agency and the NFL draft to add playmakers to both sides of the ball.

Training camp begins next month for the 49ers. Rookies report on July 15 and veterans head into the building on July 22.

Even though they don't return until then, the 49ers still have an opportunity to drastically improve their team ahead of the 2025 season. Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey is on the trade block after both sides mutually agreed to explore a trade back in April.

Nothing has been agreed upon yet, and the 49ers should jump in to land the All-Pro CB. In this projected trade, San Francisco sends two fourth-round picks (2026 & 2027) to the Dolphins in exchange for Ramsey.

49ers Land Jalen Ramsey in Proposed Trade

Considering Ramsey is 30 years old and will be 31 years old in October, the price tag isn't through the roof. The Florida State product is on the books for $16.6 million for 2025, but the 49ers could easily absorb that contract since they have $45 million available in cap space.

San Francisco saw Charvarius Ward leave in free agency and didn't do much to replace him. Deommodore Lenoir is expected to be the CB1 but was arrested on Thursday for a charge of obstruction of justice.

Meanwhile, the 49ers drafted Upton Stout with the 100th overall pick, but you have to temper expectations for a rookie.

Ramsey is someone who can still ball and would provide San Francisco with a CB1. In his nine-year career, he has 534 total tackles, 27 TFLs, 108 pass breakups, and 24 interceptions. The Florida State product has three First-Team All-Pros and seven Pro Bowls under his belt. Last season, Ramsey had a 76.9 overall grade (16th among 222 graded cornerbacks), 85.7 run-defense grade (10th among 222 graded cornerbacks), and 71.9 coverage grade (39th among 222 graded cornerbacks). He also allowed just two touchdowns in 607 coverage snaps.

Ramsey still has juice left in the tank and would elevate the 49ers' defense. This is a move they should seriously consider to bounce back after a disappointing 2024 season.
