The San Francisco 49ers have switched things up on their roster going into the 2025 season. With the bulk of free agency over with and the NFL Draft on the back burner, the opportunities to improve the roster are getting slimmer.

Rookie minicamp for the 49ers is set to run from May 9 to May 10. While that is next on the docket for San Francisco, they could still improve this team with a free agent addition to start the month of May.

When the 49ers were at their peak, they had a ferocious pass rush at their disposal. With Nick Bosa leading the charge there, they could still sign free agent EDGE Von Miller.

49ers Should Sign Von Miller

After spending three seasons with the Buffalo Bills, he was released, and at this point in the offseason, he would be a good addition to the 49ers' front four.

Miller, 36, could come in as a rotational pass rusher role so he can pin his ears back and get after the quarterback. In his 13-year career, he has racked up 129.5 sacks, 171 TFLs, and 256 QB hits. Miller has also forced 27 fumbles.

In the 2024 season with Buffalo, he had 17 total tackles, eight QB hits, and six sacks. According to PFF, he posted an 82.4 overall grade (15th among 211 eligible defenders) and an 83 pass rush grade (11th among 211 eligible defenders).

The Texas A&M product still has some juice left in his legs and would be a quality addition to Robert Saleh's defense. San Francisco also took Georgia EDGE Mykel Williams with the 11th-overall pick, and Miller could also step in as a mentor.

Williams gaining knowledge from one of the best pass rushers in league history would be an excellent bonus as a rookie.

Miller will only play for a contender at this stage of his career, and the 49ers can give him that chance. This is something that will be a win-win for both sides.
