The San Francisco 49ers crossed a big item off their to-do list when they agreed to a contract extension with George Kittle on Tuesday morning. The four-year, $76 million contract makes Kittle the highest-paid tight end in NFL history and keeps one of San Francisco’s playmakers in the fold during an offseason where the 49ers have shed salary to prepare for Brock Purdy’s next contract.

While Purdy’s contract is the next item of business for John Lynch, he took some time to reflect on Kittle’s new deal. His comments show a commitment to one of the greatest players in franchise history and looks ahead to what could be a bright future in San Francisco.

John Lynch Praises George Kittle After Massive Extension With 49ers

Lynch released a statement that reflected on Kittle’s arrival in San Francisco back in 2017. The Iowa product turned himself into one of the NFL’s greatest tight ends and Lynch expressed grattitude that he’ll continue his Hall of Fame-worthy career in a 49ers uniform.

“In 2017, our first year with the 49ers, we selected a skinny tight end from Iowa whom we were really excited about,” Lynch said. “We had high hopes but no one knew that he would become the player that he is today. George’s leadership, enthusiasm for the game, for his teammates, and the Faithful are truly unique and special. He is an outstanding representation for the 39ers on the field and an outstanding representative for the organization off the field with his investment in the local and military communities. He has a great sense of pride in his role and has put in the work to be one of the best tight ends in the NFL.”

Kittle has already made his mark with the 49ers. The 31-year-old has been to the Super Bowl with San Francisco twice during his career and ranks third in franchise history with 538 receptions and 7,380 receiving yards. He also ranks eighth in 49ers history with 45 receiving touchdowns and is a two-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler.

With the Madison, Wisc. native also climbing the all-time ranks for tight ends, it’s clear Kittle has some gas left in the tank. His work is not done as he chases an elusive Super Bowl ring and Lynch can say the same as he focuses on a massive new deal for his quarterback.
