Super Bowl 59 is right around the corner, but that hasn't stopped San Francisco 49ers fans from thinking about the NFL offseason — especially Christian McCaffrey's health.
It isn't a secret that McCaffrey's 2024 campaign left much to be desired. The superstar running back struggled to stay healthy, missing 13 games due to various reasons that played a big role in the 49ers missing the playoffs with a 6-11 record.
McCaffrey was placed on injured reserve with a PCL injury at the start of December, leaving fans wondering if he'll be healthy in time for training camp.
Christian McCaffrey Projected to Have Full Offseason
In the lead-up to Super Bowl 59, McCaffrey's father Ed — a former NFL wide receiver — gave Niners Nation's Alex Train quite the promising injury update regarding his son.
"He's doing great," the elder McCaffrey said. "He should be healthy by next week, and he'll have a full offseason to train."
"It was a tough season but he's in great shape."

Injuries aren't anything new to the McCaffrey experience. The three-time Pro Bowl RB has only played one full schedule since the start of the 2020 campaign, having missed an average of seven games across the last five seasons.
It didn't take long for McCaffrey's health issues to arise in 2024. Simultaneous calf and Achilles injuries sidelined him for the preseason and the 49ers' first eight regular-season contests, prompting a controversial trip to Germany in late September.
McCaffrey eventually made his season debut in Week 10. However, he didn't look like his usual self. Although he showed glimpses of his old self, he only turned 65 touches into 348 scrimmage yards without a score in four games before the 49ers pulled the plug on his season.
Hopefully, his father is right and McCaffrey's injury issues are firmly behind him. The former Offensive Player of the Year has been one of the NFL's best RBs of the last decade, having amassed 6,387 rushing yards and 4,466 receiving yards with 81 total TDs across 95 career appearances.
At the end of the day, the 49ers need McCaffrey to be as healthy if they want to compete for a Super Bowl. The organization made a long-term commitment to the versatile runner when they signed him to a two-year, $38 million extension last June, keeping him in the Bay through 2027.
Fortunately, all signs point to McCaffrey and the 49ers bouncing back next season. After all, Kyle Shanahan's team currently holds the sixth-best Super Bowl 60 odds (+1500) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
