With 11 picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers are tied for most selections in this year's draft. After losing several key contributors in free agency, the 49ers need every single one of those picks to fill the holes on the roster.

The 49ers have been one of the most successful teams in evaluating talent and developing them into solid NFL players over the years. GM John Lynch has to do that once again to help get this team back on track after a disastrous 2024 campaign. Let's dive into their pick situation in the upcoming draft.

What Happened to the 49ers' Original Draft Picks?

The 49ers lost a fifth-round pick due to an administrative payroll accounting error. They also sent their own sixth-round pick to the Vikings in the Jordan Mason deal. They have their own draft selections in every other round.

How Did the 49ers Acquire Their Additional Draft Picks?

San Francisco added two more picks via trades this offseason. They received the No. 147 overall pick from Washington in the Deebo Samuel trade, while acquiring the No. 160 pick from the Vikings in the deal that sent Jordan Mason to Minnesota.

The 49ers received a special compensatory pick (the No. 100 pick) to reward the development of minority coaches and executive candidates. After losing DeMeco Ryans to the Texans and executive Ran Carthon to the Titans, the 49ers were awarded the additional pick.

The other compensatory picks are from deals for Chase Young, Sam Darnold, and Ray-Ray McCloud.

49ers Draft Needs

Despite significant departures in the offseason, the San Francisco 49ers are still in good shape in most key positions. With 11 picks in the draft, however, they need to add depth in various areas. The most important of them all is the defensive line.

San Francisco lost defensive tackle Javon Hargrave and defensive end Leonard Floyd. Considering that pass rush and interior defensive line were issues even before free agency, one can expect GM John Lynch to address this need early in the draft.

The offensive line and wide receiver are other holes the 49ers should try to plug as early as possible.
