The San Francisco 49ers hit the proverbial lottery when they selected Brock Purdy with the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, as he has gone from Mr. Irrelevant to a Pro Bowl QB.
While Purdy is now in the midst of negotiations on an extension with San Francisco, the former Iowa State Cyclones standout is still doing all of the little things that have helped him enjoy this type of success as a professional.
Niners offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak met with the media on Friday and shared how Purdy is still attacking his offseason work by studying a great deal of film from throughout his NFL career.
“He wants to study himself, he wants to see where he can improve, he wants to be told the truth about what we think about how he can improve,” Kubiak said, via Matt Maiocco of NBCSportsBayArea.com.
With Purdy keeping his on-field work at a minimum while these contract negotiations are still going on, the quarterback is showing San Francisco's front office just how dedicated he is to this team's overall success. Consuming hours upon hours of film in order to refine your own processes can be a difficult thing to do but Purdy has been more than up to the challenge this offseason.
“Brock's been great,” Kubiak said. “Brock has almost three full seasons, like two-and-a-half seasons of tape now where he can really look at his (video) cutups and look at his games over that time period.
“(He can) study himself and see where he has gotten better, where he needs to continue to get better. He’s a great student of himself.”
Both sides would love to get a deal done sooner rather than later so that the focus of all parties can turn back to the happenings on the field rather than negotiations behind closed doors. At this time, one thing is for certain, Kubiak and the rest of the Niners' offensive coaches have to be chomping at the bit for Purdy to get his new deal signed and get back to work ahead of the 2025 campaign.
