The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their first week of OTAs last Thursday. These two practices saw the return of 49ers' star running back Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey reportedly looked like his old self, which is a positive after the injuries he dealt with last season.
That said, a former failed 49ers running back has landed a new opportunity to prove himself. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Tennessee Titans signed running back Tyrion Davis-Price to a two-year deal on Monday morning. Davis-Price will now have a chance to produce in a backfield that isn't as crowded as San Francisco's or the Philadelphia Eagles.
Former 49ers Running Back Tyrion Davis-Price Joins the Tennessee Titans
In 2022, San Francisco selected Davis-Price with the 83rd overall pick in the third round. During his time in San Francisco, the 24-year-old was behind the likes of McCaffrey. Elijah Mitchell, Jordan Mason and others.
Despite being behind all that talent, in two seasons, Davis-Price was able to record 40 carries for 120 yards. San Francisco decided to move on from him following the 2023 season. Davis-Price then signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was behind Saquon Barkley and other long-time Eagles backs. As a result, Philadelphia cut Davis-Price at the start of last month.
Now in Tennessee, Davis-Price has a chance to prove why the 49ers drafted him in 2022. Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears are the Titans' lead backs. However, with Pollard being 28, the likelihood he makes it through another full season is slim.
Therefore, if Davis-Price is able to show something during OTAs and the preseason, he could become a featured part of the Titans' backfield. Nevertheless, it will always be a bit baffling why Davis-Price didn't work out in San Francisco and so many others have.
