The San Francisco 49ers underwent a ton of turnover on the roster this offseason in an effort to make a playoff run in 2025.

Training camp and the preseason are where players start to make an imprint on the roster and potentially lock down a roster spot. There are battles happening all over the team, including the WR room.

Earlier in the month, San Francisco signed WR Robbie Chosen to a one-year deal, but if he doesn't stand out in the next few weeks, he could be quickly out of the Bay Area.

San Francisco WR Robbie Chosen Must Stand Out

The 49ers have Brandon Aiyuk on the PUP list and Jordan Watkins nursing an ankle injury. Jacob Cowing also hurt his hamstring and recently returned to practice in a limited capacity.

The WR room is crowded and open, which is why they added Chosen. This isn't his first run with the 49ers, as he spent last year's training camp with them before getting axed in August.

Nonetheless, Chosen has been in the NFL for nine years. He's played for the Jets, Panthers, Cardinals, and Dolphins. His best season came in 2020 with Carolina, where he racked up a career-high 1,096 receiving yards.

Since 2022, he hasn't finished with more than 282 receiving yards in a season and has struggled to carve out a role for himself. Chosen has made a killing in the league as a speedy, deep threat who could stretch the field.

While he may no longer have the same speed that he once had, Chosen could still stretch the field, but that's not enough. He must show he can still create separation as a route runner and beat out the other guys in the WR room.

The next few weeks will be huge for the 32-year-old. If he fails to provide more than what's already on the roster, he could be released by the 49ers.

San Francisco is aiming for Aiyuk to return around Week 6. Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings, Demarcus Robinson, and Russell Gage Jr. will all likely make the roster. That's without mentioning young guys like Watkins and Cowing, who've shown flashes.

The spots are extremely limited in the 49ers WR room, so if Chosen isn't outplaying these guys, there's a high chance he gets axed again by San Francisco.
