1. They added the “Silverback” but will the 49ers offensive line keep Garoppolo upright?

As previously mentioned, Garoppolo was sacked 36 times last year. If the 49ers want to have another deep playoff run in a tough NFC West, they’ll want to keep him standing and healthy.

Presumably, the starting five to protect Garoppolo would be Daniel Brunskill at center, Laken Tomlinson, and Tom Compton as guards, with Mike McGlinchey and newly acquired Trent Williams at the tackle positions.

With no preseason games, it’ll be interesting to see how these guys work together. Last season Shanahan loved using everyone in his offense from running backs to receivers, to tight ends. The majority of the plays were successful because of the offensive line.

But if the offensive line allows other teams’ stars like Los Angeles Rams’ defensive tackle Aaron Donald, it’s going to be a long season for Garoppolo.

There’s a lot of hope and optimism for this starting five. Will they stand up to the pressure or will they buckle?

It’s tough to get back to the Super Bowl the very next year. But the Niners have kept a lot of their team intact through the offseason while also adding some key pieces.

If they can answer these three questions, they’ll be set for another exciting playoff run.
