Warriors: 5 trade packages for Giannis Antetokounmpo
Could the Golden State Warriors make a major splash for Giannis Antetokounmpo?
The Milwaukee Bucks were just upset by the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. If the Golden State Warriors will ever be able to acquire Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, it’ll have to be this offseason. What could a trade package look like?
For the second consecutive season, the Bucks finished the year with the best record in the Eastern Conference but were jettisoned from the postseason before reaching the NBA Finals.
This year’s loss to the Miami Heat in the Conference Semifinals was an especially disappointing end to what seemed like a potential championship run.
While an underwhelming postseason performance is always upsetting to fans, it’s especially troublesome for Milwaukee fans. Everyone in the NBA knows that their franchise’s future is incredibly uncertain.
Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is a favorite to win his second consecutive Most Valuable Player award but has yet to reach the NBA finals. Set for unrestricted free agency after the 2020-21 season, a lot could change if he doesn’t see a championship future in Milwaukee.
Giannis did injure his ankle during the series against the Heat and miss nearly 1.5 games, but the Bucks were down 3-0 in the series prior to his injury.
It’s not unforeseeable that Antetokounmpo has made his decision after another failed postseason run that his future won’t be with the organization that drafted him.
Where his career goes from there remains a question. Plenty of teams would line up to make a run for him in free agency, but Golden State Warriors fans have zeroed in on the obvious affection between Antetokounmpo and Stephen Curry.
Golden State is unlikely to be a player for Giannis in free agency next summer, but if he forces the issue this offseason, few teams are as well equipped as the Warriors to give Milwaukee a trade package, which includes top draft picks, young players, and an established veteran.
Here is a plethora of packages Golden State could make.
